Celiac Disease

The celiac disease is a disease that affects the small intestine of the body. In this disease immunological reaction occurs in the layer that lines the inner part of the small intestine. This allergic reaction is due the proteins which are contained in wheat oats, barley and rye. This results in occurrence of inflammation causing inflammation of small intestine lining. The complication of the disease arises when there is reduced absorption of nutrients in the food we eat because of the disease. The prevalence of this disease is high in the European countries. The countries which record high number of celiac disease cases are Italy, Finland, Ireland, Austria and Sweden. Medical survey in Northern Ireland shows that there is one celiac affected person in every 300 persons. In Finland one in every 100 individual is suffering from this disease. North America also shows considerable amount of celiac cases. Recent reports indicate that this disease is rising in terms of its incidence in U.S.

What symptoms does respiratory disease show?
The usual symptoms of the disease are shortness of breath. This medical condition is referred as dyspnea. Persistence of cough is also a symptom. Sometimes there may be sputum production with cough. Loss of appetite, chest pain, breathing with noise, loss of weight, coughing blood, and cyanosis are the common symptoms of respiratory disease.

How diagnosis of the disease is performed?
Diagnosis of the disease involves the tests mentioned as follows. CT scan and x ray of the chest serves as one of the major tools of diagnosis. The pulmonary function test, biopsies of the pleura or the lung also serves our purpose. Ultrasound scanning and perfusion scanning is also used in diagnosis of respiratory diseases.

The administration of vaccines is the preventive measure of the disease. The treatment involves medication of inhalation type like antibiotics, corticosteroids, anti coagulants, immune suppressants etc. the treatment method also includes surfactant replacement therapy, physiotherapy, chemotherapy, liquid and also mechanical ventilation, radiotherapy, surgery etc.
