Crohn’s disease
Crohn’s disease is a disease of the intestine. It is an inflammatory bowel disease which is the common name for disorders that leads to inflammation in the region of intestine. This disease is otherwise known as enteritis or ileitis. Crohn’s disease usually leads to infection in the small intestinal region of the body. In particular, this disease occurs in ileum of the small intestine. The inflammations due to this disease results in extreme pain and also causes regular emptying of the intestines. This can contribute to diarrhea.

Occurrence
The occurrence of Crohn’s disease is common to both the genders i.e. their incidence rate is equal in men and women. It has been found that this disease runs in some of the families. Nearly 20% of the persons affected by this disease have their blood associated with any of the inflammatory bowel diseases.

Causes
There are many proposals about the cause of this disease and the formation of the inflammation. There are no concrete proofs for these theories. However, the mostly accepted cause is that the immune system of the body responds to a pathogen by inducing the existing inflammation in the intestine. The general thought among the medical fraternity is the immune system abnormalities may be the cause of the disease.

What are the consequences of the disease?
The major consequence of the Crohn’s disease is the intestinal blockage. The consequences also include the formation of ulcers or sores in the affected regions. The fistulas usually become infected as a result of the disease. There are also nutritional consequences that arise due to the disease. Deficiency of vitamins and proteins occur in this disease. Consequences in the form of problems related to skin, mouth or eye inflammation, arthritis, formation of kidney stones and diseases related to liver occur due to the Crohn’s disease.

What are the treatment procedures?
The factors that influence the treatment procedure are severity, site of disease, consequences of the disease, and response of the disease to the treatment given before. The treatment procedure to the disease aims in controlling diarrhea and inflammation, providing solutions to deficiency in the nutritional habits, and make the patient free of pain in the abdominal part, and stopping the bleeding in rectum.

The treatment procedure includes drug therapy, suggesting a diet having the required nutrients and surgical procedures. These treatment procedures are given separately or in combination. The treatment procedures proves to be good in only controlling the Crohn’s and does not give complete cure to the disease. The drug that is usually prescribed is Sulfasalazine. The drugs that are often employed have mesalamine for controlling the inflammation. The surgical procedures involve colectomy which is to remove the whole colon part.

To maintain a correct blood sugar, the following seven principles have to be adopted by the diabetic patients, whether they have low-sugar or high sugar.

Principle one:
Adopt a diet higher in protein, lower in simple carbohydrates and with only a moderate amount of fat. A diet of nuts, wholesome grains like wheat, ragi and very little of rice, all kinds of wholesome grains and for fat a little raw-coconut or mustard of sesame seeds.

Principle two:
Eat slow absorbing carbohydrates rather than faster foods. i.e., whole grains, fruits and vegetables which break down sugar in a time consuming manner.

Principle three:
Grace, don’t stuff. Try spacing out the meals into smaller, less elaborate snacks.

Principle four:
Say good-bye to fast foods. Most of the highly refined, sugary foods contain hyper concentrated sugar. These “sweet nothings” are enough to challenge the sugar thermostat of a big elephant. Every bit of these sticky sweet confections throws the pancreas into a high-stage, red alert, in a biochemical panic to combat the infusion of high power sugars. The wild variations of sugar and insulin will put a tremendous strain on the pancreas and other organs, at once sending the energy level through the roof, then bringing it crashing down again, which leads to hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia syndrome. Therefore, give up those fast foods/junk foods today itself.

Principle five:
Say good-bye to tea, coffee, alcohol and tobacco. Since diabetes is a disease of unnecessary ups and downs, it is better to minimize the causes of these gyrations. Getting rid of artificial stimulants is the best way to do this. Further, the cycle of low blood sugar and high stimulants puts a real strain on several of the most important organs, including adrenal glands, stomach, nervous systems and cardio vascular systems. So give them up today itself.

Principle six:
If you are overweight, reduce. Losing weight will help the arteries and kidneys not to mention the sex life. It may also help lower the risk of fluctuations in the blood sugar level.

Principle seven:
Always be on the move. Do some exercises whenever you get time. Especially do some yoga or simply walk for 40 minutes every day, early in the morning, on empty stomach. Always sit straight, which will help you to burn fat faster.

When a patient feels like Hypoglycemia related symptoms, take a low-sugar, high-protein snack such as a handful of nuts or some low-fat-butter milk or some complex carbohydrates. If after eating, the patient feels the symptoms subside, it suggests that the problem may be due to an over sensitive food-insulin-blood sugar action. Instead of this, if the patient takes refined sugar or simple carbohydrates, that will make a high-sugar reaction. What the patient actually needs is a high protein or complex carbohydrates (Groundnuts / Coconuts / Dates / Papaya) that will gradually release protein or complex carbohydrates into the blood stream which will not only of if. In short, the effect will be ‘retarded release of sugar’.

Joints form the junctions between the bones in the body. They are an important part of the skeletal system and aids in weight support, binding the bone parts, supporting various movements of body, assist bone growth etc. They are otherwise called as articulations. The overuse, degeneration, faulty attack by the immune system and infection causes the disorders in joints. This article deals with some of the common joint disorders.

Some of the joint diseases are as follows.

Arthritis

This disease results in the joints becoming inflamed and painful. It has been found that arthritis occurs in about 50 million people in U.S. Arthritis exists in about 100 different types. Some of the types of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, etc. The common symptoms include pain in joints, swelling of joints, fever, low blood pressure etc.

Types of arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis

This type of arthritis is an autoimmune disease usually resulting in adults. It is commonly a systemic illness with anemia, fatigue, changes in the eyes, lungs, heart etc. This painful condition results when the normal healthy tissues of the body is affected by the immune system. The disease causes the synovial membrane to become thick and inflamed. Damages occur in the articular cartilage. Arthritis attacks many types of joints. Replacement of joints that are severely damaged by surgical procedures can treat this disease.

Lyme arthritis

This disease is due to the bacterial infection transmitted through tick bite which causes intermittent arthritis in many joints. The symptoms include pain, fatigue rashes, etc. The use of antibiotics to treat the disease is quite effective.

Osteoarthritis

This is a degenerative disease and most usual form of arthritis. The age is a factor in its occurrence as the chance of getting the disorder increases with age. In this kind of arthritis the softening and gradual disintegration of articular cartilage happens. This causes the articular surfaces to become rough. Pain develops in joints and difficulty arises in moving the body parts. The commonly affected joints are which are present in hips, fingers, vertebral columns etc. The drugs used in treating osteoarthritis are anti inflammatory medications.

Bursitis

This joint disease nothing but the inflammation of bursa. This disorder is due to stress applied to bursa or the overuse of joints. Bursa is present between the Achilles tendon and the heel bone. Sudden physical activities in high magnitude cause the inflammation. Tennis elbow is a type of bursitis. This form attacks the bursa which is present in between the skin and olec-ranon process. Usually doctors suggest the patient to take rest as a part of their treatment procedure.

These are only some of many types of joint disorders. It is necessary to treat these disorders with appropriate care before they could become dangerous.

Introduction
The Parkinson disease is found in millions of people all around the world. This disease is usually characterized by the degeneration of neurons present in the basal nuclei. These nuclei are responsible for the synthesis of neurotransmitter dopamine. As a result the dopamine levels decrease in the striatum. The effects thus arise include slow movements, inability to trigger the voluntary muscular actions, tremors, loss of balance and also rigidity.

What could be the possible causes?
The exact reason for the occurrence of Parkinson disease is unknown. Many believe that the disease could be due to the increased and frequent exposure to specific chemicals present in some of the pesticides and also in certain designer drugs. The disease can also arise due to frequent and severe injuries in a person. Due to this reason it has been said that professional boxers have an increased chance of acquiring the disease as they get frequent blows in the head. Injuries and chemical exposure may higher the formation of oxygen free radical rate that often leads to damaging of the brain tissue.

Genetics can help in a long way to find the cause of this disease. Genetic researchers have found a mutant gene which accounts for the disorder in many well analyzed large families. A protein known as alpha-synuclein is encoded by the gene. This protein is present in basal nuclei. During the abnormal condition improper folding of the protein happens. This may lead to the formation of deposits in the brain. There are some rare cases where the disease is inherited. In such cases the human genome project will identify the causative genes for the occurrence of the disease. This is also used to identify the genes that will enhance the risk of getting the disease.

What are the treatment techniques for the Parkinson disease?
Over the years the administration of levo-dopa is the standard procedure for treating the disease. This is nothing but a precursor to dopamine which is capable of passing through the blood brain barrier. In the brain levodopa once converted to dopamine cannot pass the barrier. But as a result of regular usage of levodopa, the brain increasingly turns out to be dependent on the external administration and thus the brain’s own generation of dopamine becomes lowered. Finally levo-dopa lessens the symptoms for some time. Another drug known as prampipexole is found to even out the dopamine supply by mimicking the dopamine action. This drug when given along with levo-dopa, the symptoms get improved and also found to lower the depression related with the Parkinson disease.

The experimental approach to treat the disease is the transplantation of fetal brain tissue into the brain of the Parkinson diseased person. This tissue produces the required dopamine. This treatment procedure went through lot of controversies.

The celiac disease is a disease that affects the small intestine of the body. In this disease immunological reaction occurs in the layer that lines the inner part of the small intestine. This allergic reaction is due the proteins which are contained in wheat oats, barley and rye. This results in occurrence of inflammation causing inflammation of small intestine lining. The complication of the disease arises when there is reduced absorption of nutrients in the food we eat because of the disease. This disease exhibits few or in some cases no symptoms in the affected persons. This article mainly concentrates on the causes of the celiac disease.

Occurrence of the celiac disease
The prevalence of this disease is high in the European countries. The countries which record high number of celiac disease cases are Italy, Finland, Ireland, Austria and Sweden. Medical survey in Northern Ireland shows that there is one celiac affected person in every 300 persons. In Finland one in every 100 individual is suffering from this disease. North America also shows considerable amount of celiac cases. Recent reports indicate that this disease is rising in terms of its incidence in U.S.

Respiratory disease refers to group of diseases that occur in the respiratory system of the body. It covers a variety of disease ranging from mild natured diseases like common cold to fatal diseases like pulmonary embolism and bacterial pneumonia. Diseases that occur in respiratory tracts, pleural cavity, trachea, bronchial tubes lungs and muscles associated to breathing come under the respiratory diseases. Respiratory diseases are found to be one of the major causes of death and illness. This article deals with various types of respiratory diseases, symptoms diagnosis and treatment of the respiratory diseases.

How respiratory diseases are classified?
Usually the respiratory diseases are categorized on the basis of the organ, cause and symptoms involved in the disease. Some of the respiratory diseases are mentioned as follows. One such type is the obstructive lung disease. In this disease narrowing of the bronchial tubes occur. This makes the passage of air through the tubes extremely difficult. The other type is the restrictive lung disease. In this disease type loss of lung compliance happens and is otherwise called as interstitial diseases of the lung.

Upper respiratory tract infection and lower respiratory infection are the types of respiratory tract infections. The former type is usually common cold and also includes tonsillitis and sinusitis, etc. The typical example of the latter type is pneumonia which is an infection of lung due to bacterial infection.

Respiratory diseases can be also tumors. These tumors can be benign or malignant. Some of the common types of tumors occurring in the respiratory system are adenocarcinoma, small cell and non small cell types of tumor in lung, head and neck cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, mesothelioma etc.

The respiratory diseases also include pleural cavity diseases like emphysema and pulmonary vascular diseases.

The most precious thing in the world for a human being is his health. Without a healthy life, nothing appears attractive and meaningful. Most of the times, people are unaware of the health care standards and compulsions for this reason, people have unhealthy diet patterns and frequently catch viral infections. The unhealthy diet is the basic reason behind the weakening of immune systems of body. There are people who do not eat healthy food at all because they do not know the importance of each diet element and there are some people who intentionally cut their diet.

The weight loosing trend is increasing in the developed countries due to the availability of numerous options and awareness sources. The reason for increased weight loss awareness may be due to the fact that western country people take in high cholesterol and fatty food items. The inability to burn the consumed fats make most of the people gain weight which is dangerous for the health. So for this reason the United States experts are highlighting health issues on the internet as well as on print media.

The health care research is also advanced in the developed countries. Being the world’s sole super power, United States of America is far ahead of other countries in innovation, pharmacy and medical research. The basic health acre is highly subsidized in public hospitals and nursing home but the private hospital treatments and operations are expensive. Very few countries provide low cost and free medical facilities to its citizens like Canada.

But in rest of the countries people have to spend themselves on their medication. But in developed countries people do not catch diseases frequently which save them from spending huge amounts of money on medical treatments. The patients from other countries of the world seek medical treatments in the western countries due to the advanced technology and facilities available with them. The research and technology is advancing rapidly in such countries which is becoming a source of national income. Medical instruments are prepared in the industries of European and United States’ industries and are exported to the rest of the world. Similar is the case with the medicines. The United States of America manufactures medicines and supplies it to the developing countries as they lack technology as well as expertise to manufacture certain medicines. World health organization is also developed by the advanced nations to help the nations which are far behind in this regard.

The social work profession emerged in the health care first of any other field. The very first social workers were in fact the medical social workers who helped the people injured in the world wars. So the social work as an important place in the health care professions. No doubt it can not directly contribute to the health care of people but it can act as a channel between the patients and doctors.

Especially the poor people can seek the help of the social workers who have been appointed by almost all big hospitals. The social workers in the health care profession are known as clinical and medical social workers. Health care profession surely needs a human element while they treat patients. But most of the times, the doctors can not do proper counseling of the patient and his family. This is the responsibility of social work. The spaces left in every field, which require some kind of humanistic approach and counseling is tackled by social workers. Similar is the trend in health care professions. The hospitals and pharmaceutical firms appoint social workers who can advise about the ethical standards as well as counsel patients.

The health care services are ensured by the socials health workers at community as well as individual levels the governments of developing nations are now realizing the importance of social work profession and are now adopting various strategies of development which require social workers’ services. But in spite all the roles it can play for the socio economic prosperity, it covers unfortunately few areas of health care only. It must be done that all the health care providers get training on social work from the expert social workers so they may not work as machines in their health care institutions. Many areas are there which require social work’s attention. The awareness about the health care and diseases can be spread by the social workers. This is due to the reason that they may have abilities and skills to communicate with the communities and social gatherings of various social classes to convince them.

This must be done in the developing countries as the developed countries have almost solved their community related problems. Developed countries are far ahead of under developed world in health care services and social work associated with the health services. They have succeeded in introducing human element in the hospitals along with the materialistic approach of treatment.
